    hmm, early 50s i believe.

IPL is used for color. i use a very gentle one, the alma, and not have had any problems. radiofrequency can dissolve fat. i use it for jowls and neck but not the face. ipl generally is not intended to dissolve fat but to manage color.

Hiya, thnak you for posting this. I actually had one face treatment of fotofacial in the past to cure thread veins, and a sun damage. It improved it.
I am also having ipl hair removal.
    Now I am worried.
what is the best treatment for ridding my face of age spots, fine lines and thread veins? (am fair skinned)
also, with your treatment- does it need topping up?
finally cant ipl be used to remove fat under the neck then-if its having this effect :-)

i’m sorry to hear of your situation. i hope you are doing better.

  6. samlammd says:

honestly, i think you need to ask a derm. they know better than I do. as far as plasma versus peels, i have stopped peels except for the lighter peels that my aesthetician staff performs. i think plasma creates a better texture and tone for the skin.

Dr. Lam, is there a significant difference between Tretinoin creme 0,05 % and Tretinoin creme 0,10 % in skin rejuvenation and skin maintenance? Would you recommend to use Tretinoin creme for the rest of your life or do you think there are any problems with long-term safety? Do Isotretinoin cremes also aid in skin rejuvenation and skin maintenance?
When do you use Plasma and when do you use chemical peels…. are there special indications?

Thanks, Dr. Lam for posting this. Fat loss from many laser/IPL devices is real. It’s happening to many people who have not yet had their voices heard or been recognized as victims of these devices. What has happened to this lady is not anecdotal, it is real and happening to countless others.

I had ipl(lumenis 1) treatment which left scars on my cheeks..lots of indentations.
Everyone says ipl is safe…well its not. And my treatment was not carried out by some beautician in a spa, it was carried out by a reputable doctor

  11. coworsoy says:

it is not only ipl and thermage which cause fat loss. i had fat loss from and ipl and years later major fat loss and scarring from a candela v-beam perfecta. there are many of us out there and we would love a report from the medical industry.

  12. samlammd says:

you are doing the right thing. only thermage and high intensity IPL/fotofacial treatments have reportedly done that. i use a very low setting IPL and plasma that have never done that.

    Wow, great work, Dr. Lam!!!
But how is it possible that laser can melt the subcutaneous fat cells?
What I always wanted to know: Are chemical peels better than laser? And is it possible that you won´t need one, if you start early enough wit Tretinoin and sun protection? I´m 24 and I use Tretinoin creme ( 0,05 % ) every night and sun protection ( Mexoryl XL and XS LPS 30 )every day. I have done this for 2 years and now my skin looks like I was 16.
